Rusizi River trail
Rusizi River trail is a route that takes you through Burundi and Rwanda covering about 452 miles and takes about 13 to 14 hours for a complete hike
The trail offers one of the best but challenging hikes as tourists walk from gentle to steep slopes.
Along the trail are camping spots which offers a great experience for tourists who would love to spend their a day or more .

About Rusizi River
Rusizi River is a River in Burundi that flows from lake kivu to lake Tanganyika in Tanzania .
The river covers an area of 117km long flowing from an altitude of 1500m to 770m
The River was formed after volcanism that formed the Virunga mountains blocked lake Kivu ‘s outlet and then instead forced the lake to overflow to the south.
The river forms a border between Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo and as well as between Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi .
The tributaries of Rusizi River are Ruhwa, Nyamagana , Muhira , Kagunuzi and Rubyiro.
The Rusizi River has mainly 2 power stations ie Rusizi 1 hydroelectric power station constructed in 1958 and Rusizi 11 hydroelectric power station constructed in 1989.
The river is comprised of both flora and fauna ie Reed swamps and hippopotamus and Nile crocodiles
