Below are short notes about each of the sectors for simple guidelines and experiences .

Buhoma sector

This stands as the oldest sector of Bwindi impenetrable National Park with it’s first habituated gorilla family introduction being in 1993

It is located in the northern park of Bwindi and is easily accessible by an 8-9hours drive from Entebbe to Bwindi or a 2 hours flight from Entebbe international airport or kajjansi airstrip to Kihihi airport from which one can get another drive to buhoma sector.

Buhoma sector also provides a cheaper 3 day gorilla trekking safari from Rwanda in Bwindi through Kyaninga border and Gatuna border from Kigali .

There are many habituated Gorilla families in Buhoma sector namely

Katwe gorilla family

Rushegura gorilla family

Bunyindo gorilla family

Also , guided nature walks are also carried out using trails such as

Muzabajo loop trail

River ivy trail

Munyaga River trail

Rushura Hill trail

Ruhija sector

This is found in the Eastern sector of Bwindi .

It lies closest to Buhoma sector and is the only sector in which elephants and other animals are found such as antelopes .

Ruhija sector lies at an elevation of 2500meters giving a gorgeous scenic view around the virunga ranges

It enables a hike to Rwamunyonyi peak which stands at 2607 m above sea level making it the highest and coolest point in all of Bwindi

The sine Ruhija stands as the highest point making it the best challenge for gorilla trekking hike in Bwindi

It also has limited accomodation however it’s close approximity to Buhoma Sector makes it possible for tourists to hike it and sleep at one of the accomodation at Buhoma

Rushaga sector

It is located in the southern part of Bwindi near Kisoro neighbouring the Park’s Nkuringo sector

It is the only sector in which research and gorilla habituation takes place which makes it very popular and the best place to carry out both gorilla trekking and gorilla habituation process .

It also offers guided nature walks , birding and community tours and can be accessed by road and air and takes slightly longer hours than other sectors to access that is 10-11 hours making it very difficult to connect with the other national parks.

It has a rough terrain which makes trekking very challenging sometimes and has 8 habituated gorilla families.

Nkuringo sector

This is also located in the southern part of the park neighbouring Rushaga sector and is the least visited sector in Bwindi . It gets it’s name from the first gorilla family to be habituated that is Nkuringo gorilla family and apparently has other families such as Christmas gorilla family , Bushaho gorilla family

Nkuringo sector gives a mind-blowing view of Nyamulagira and Nyiragongo mountains in DRC and provides the best option for people intending to make a stop over at lake Miranda and Mulehe for a boat ride as well as those seeking a more challenging terrain and long hikes.
