Detailed 7-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary

7-Day Uganda Gorilla Circuit Safari: Trekking & Wildlife Tour

Day 1: Kampala / Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, depart Kampala and transfer to Buhoma, the park headquarters for Bwindi.

Along the way, enjoy stops at the equator crossing and the Igongo Cultural Museum for lunch.

The journey through rolling hills continues until you reach your lodge in the evening.

Check in and prepare for your gorilla trek the next day.

The total drive time is approximately eight hours to cover over 450 kilometers. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking in Buhoma Sector

Begin the day with an early breakfast and prepare for gorilla trekking. Pack essentials, including a packed lunch, at least two liters of water, hiking boots, insect repellent, a rain jacket, and a camera.

After a briefing about gorilla trekking, hike through the forest in search of mountain gorillas, a journey that may take between 1 and 8 hours.

Upon finding the gorillas, spend one hour observing them up close, with rangers providing insights into their behavior.

After obtaining your Uganda Wildlife Gorilla Tracking certificate, return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, enjoy a cultural visit to the Ride for a Woman center before driving to Ruhija, about an hour from Buhoma.

Ruhija, at 2,000 meters above sea level, is Bwindi’s coldest region and home to four gorilla families. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking in Ruhija

Today, you’ll trek one of the four gorilla families in Ruhija, different from the family tracked in Buhoma.

Note that Ruhija’s higher altitude requires more rigorous trekking. Consider hiring a porter and bringing gardening gloves and a walking stick.

Enjoy your gorilla trekking adventure, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Mubwindi Swamp Nature Walk and Transfer to Lake Mulehe

Take a leisurely nature or community walk today. Visit Mubwindi Swamp, home to one of the 24 Albertine Rift endemics, the African Green Broadbill.

You may also spot forest elephant tracks. Alternatively, visit the Bakiga Community Lodge’s water projects to learn about local life.

Afterward, transfer to Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge. Located on the shores of Lake Mulehe, this lodge provides access to Rushaga and Nkuringo sectors.

Enjoy cultural activities like Bafumbira dances, canoeing, and a boat cruise. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Third Gorilla Trekking in Rushaga

Rise early for breakfast, as it’s a short 20-minute drive from the lodge to the gorilla center. Rushaga is home to seven gorilla families, and you’ll visit one of them today.

Situated at 1,800 meters above sea level, trekking here can be challenging.

Return to the lodge for lunch, and spend the rest of the day canoeing or boating on Lake Mulehe. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Fourth Gorilla Trekking in Nkuringo

After breakfast, transfer to the Nkuringo gorilla center for your fourth and final gorilla trek. Nkuringo, situated along the Nteko ridge at 2,500 meters above sea level, is home to four gorilla groups.

On clear days, the surrounding Virunga Ranges are visible.

After your trek, return to the lodge for lunch and a relaxing afternoon.

In the evening, you may enjoy a cultural dance and campfire experience with the locals.

Day 7: Departure

After breakfast, prepare for your transfer back to Entebbe for your flight home, marking the end of your 7 Days Luxury Uganda Safari (Bwindi Special Gorilla Holiday).
