21-Day East Africa Safari: Gorilla Trekking, Big Five & Cultures

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park from Kampala/Entebbe

Depart from Kampala or Entebbe and transfer to Murchison Falls National Park in the morning after a briefing on the safari.

You have the option of a stopover at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino trekking and lunch en route.

Proceed to the park, arriving at your accommodation for the first two nights.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

Enjoy a morning game drive with a park ranger guide knowledgeable about the park and its wildlife.

The 2-3 hour game drive is rewarding, including a stop at the hippo pool for a bush breakfast while spotting hippos.

You’ll see animals such as lions, savannah elephants, giraffes, hyenas, buffalo, common warthogs, and various bird species, including the giant kingfisher, swamp flycatcher, red-throated bee-eater, and black-billed barbet.

After lunch, embark on an afternoon boat cruise on the Nile River, spotting wildlife like hippos and crocodiles.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Head to Kibale National Park in the morning, enjoying views of forested landscapes, tea plantations, and the Rwenzori Mountains.

Arrive at the lodge with an optional cultural entertainment experience from the Isunga Cultural Community, featuring Bakiga and Batooro cultures.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking and Isunga Cultural Community Tour

Begin with chimpanzee trekking after breakfast, learning the dos and don’ts for the trek.

A ranger will guide you through the forest, and once you locate a chimpanzee troop, you’ll spend an hour observing their behaviors.

Return to the lodge for lunch, then take a community walk in Isunga village with a local guide, visiting attractions like crater lakes, tea plantations, and gardens. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Boat Cruise

Travel from Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park via the Ndali-Kasenda route, passing scenic lakes like Nyinabulitwa, Nyinambuga, and Kifuruka.

Enjoy views of the Rwenzori Mountains as you approach Kasese Town. Arrive and prepare for an afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, where you’ll see migratory birds and animals like hippos, crocodiles, antelopes, elephants, and buffaloes.

Day 6: Game Drive and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Head to the Kasenyi plains for a game drive to spot wild cats like lions, leopards, and cheetahs, along with elephants, buffalo, spotted hyenas, bushbucks, and waterbucks.

Afterward, exit the park through the Ishasha sector, known for its tree-climbing lions, en route to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

After breakfast, head to the park offices for a briefing on gorilla trekking.

You’ll join a group of trekkers to visit a gorilla family, a journey that can last 2-7 hours. Spend an hour observing these gentle giants.

Afterward, you may visit the Batwa community or relax at the lodge.

Day 8: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Depart Bwindi and travel to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, passing through Kigali City and enjoying scenic views of the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”

Day 9: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, head to the park offices for a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines.

Accompanied by an armed ranger, you’ll track gorillas, spending an hour observing them once located. Return to the lodge for lunch and dinner, with an optional visit to the local Batwa community.

Day 10: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, head to Nyungwe National Park for chimpanzee tracking and a canopy walk. Enjoy the beautiful drive to the lodge.

Day 11: Explore Nyungwe Forest National Park

Begin the day with chimpanzee trekking, followed by a canopy walk—the oldest in East Africa.

Experience the beauty of Nyungwe through encounters with chimpanzees, vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys.

Day 12: Transfer to Arusha National Park

After breakfast, transfer to Kigali International Airport for a flight to Tanzania.

A company representative will welcome you at Arusha Airport and transfer you to Arusha National Park.

Day 13: Full-Day Game Drive

Enjoy a full-day game drive in Arusha National Park, spotting animals like buffaloes, giraffes, hyenas, and zebras. Lunch will be a picnic in the park.

Day 14: Transfer to Lake Manyara National Park
