Full list of Uganda National parks
Uganda is located in East Africa and the country is one of those that welcome tourists from across the world for tourism .
The country has diverse tourist attractions from landscapes , wildlife species and cultural sites among others. National Parks in Uganda are one of the most visited and major tourist attractions. The National parks are governed by Uganda wildlife Authority and there are 10 national parks in Uganda.
- Murchison falls National Park
Murchison Falls National Park is the largest in Uganda andlocated in the western part of the country. The park covers an area of 3900 square kilometres and comprises of the karuma fall in River Nile.
The major tourist attractions are the big five mammals which are lions , leopards , elephants , buffaloes and rhinos.
- Kidepo Valley National Park
Kidepo Valley National Park is located in kaabong district north eastern Uganda. The park covers an area of 1450 square kilometres . The park habits of 70 mammal species and 400 bird species.
- Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is located in kisoro district in south western Uganda on the border of Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. The park is a home to the endangered Mountain gorillas habitung only one family. The park covers an area of 34 square kilometres and offers tourists a chance to hike mount Muhabura , Mount Gahinga and sabyinyo.
- Rwenzori Mountains National Park
Rwenzori mountains National Park is located in south western Uganda in kasese , Bundibugyo and jabarike districts . The park covers an area of 1000 square kilometres and comprises of over 200 bird species and diverse mammals like Rwenzori duiker and forest elephants.
- Queen Elizabeth National Park
Queen Elizabeth National Park is located in western Uganda covering an area of 1980 square kilometres . The park is one of the best for safaris in Uganda . The park has the five big mammals that is leopard , lions , buffalo , elephants and rhinos.
- Lake Mburo National Park
Lake mburo National Park is located in kiruhura district in western Uganda . The park is one of the smallest covering about 370 square kilometres . The park has over 350 bird species and offers amazing game drives where tourists spot leopards , zebras among others.
- Semuliki Valley National Park
The park is located in Western Uganda in Bundibugyo district . The park was established in 1993 and has 60 mammal species which are leopards , buffaloes , bush babies , elephants among others .
The park also comprises of over 400 bird species like white crested horn bill , red billed dwarf , leaf love , Nkulenga rail, yellow throated cuckoo , Capuchin babbler etc . The park also has the semuliki hot spring which are also the mist visited in the park.
- Mount Elgon National Park
Mount Elgon National Park is located in eastern Uganda at an altitude of 4321m above sea level. The park got its name from Mount Elgon which is an extinct volcano shared between Uganda and Kenya .
The park covers an area of 1121 square kilometers and has diverse primates and mammals like buffaloes , first elephants , bush bucks , giant forest hogs , antelopes among others .
- Bwindi impenetrable national park
Bwindi impenetrable national park is located in south western Uganda un the districts of kabale , kisoro and kanungu . The park is the major destination for tourists because of the endangered mountain gorillas. The park has over 120 mammal species and 350 bird species . The uniqueness of the park is that it has the highest number of mountain gorillas worldwide living in 20 gorilla families.
- Kibale forest National Park
Kibale Forest National Park is located in western Uganda covering an area of about 795 square kilometres . The park has over 77 mammal species and over 400 bird species . There are 2 teives living around the park which are Bakiga and Batoro .
By and large the National parks of Uganda offer tourists the wonderful opportunities to explore the wildlife species of the country
