Buhoma is located in the North of Bwindi impenetrable National Park and it is the most popular and most visited sector for gorilla trekking in Bwindi.
Buhoma sector has major five habituated gorilla groups and these are the Mubare gorilla group which was the first to be opened for gorilla trekking in 1993 , Rushengura gorilla group , Habinyanja gorilla group ,Katwe Gorilla family and Muyambi gorillas family .
Buhoma was the first sector to be opened for gorilla trekking by Uganda Wildlife Authority thus attracting enormous numbers of tourists to the region.
In this sector we find there also trail heads like Muyanya river trail in the Buhoma valley which leads tourists to walk for a shorter distance for bird watching along the forest edge.
The waterfall trail which passes through the tree ferns to visit the sparkling falls.
In Buhoma sector is where tourists meet and interact with the Batwa people and are guided to community walks and cultural experiences.
A drive to Buhoms takes about 8 to 10 hours and takes you through Ntuugamo , Rukungiri to Butogota and eventually Buhona sector.
Gorilla trekking in Buhoma sector costs about USD 700 and a gorilla permit is secured at Uganda Wildlife Authority.

1. Buhona Community Rest Camp
This camp was opened in 19993 and offers budget and basic accommodation in Buhona.
The camp is owned by the local community and offers six en – suite safari tents , 3 en – suite cottages, 2 non self contained twin cottage bandas , 6 bed dormitory and a camp site for campers.
The Bandas are made of local materials with African architecture giving it an amazing outlook..
The Bed room are single , Double , Twin and Triple.
Amenities include; Back up power generator, Craft shop , laundry services , Massage , Restaurant and bar , walking sticks for hike.

2. Bwindi View Bandas
This accommodation facility also offer budget accommodation to visitors of Buhoma sector.
Bwiindi view Bandas is an 100 meter walk from the park entrance and offers three Bbandas named sparrow, Robin and Eagle .
Each has 4 beds , 2 small bandas names kiwi and warbler each with 2 beds and Campsite .
Facilities are hot showers , bar and restaurant , grocery, laundry services and tents , gum boots , ram gear , binoculars for hike .
Bwindi view Bandas provides 3 meals and lunch boxes and prices are as follows;

Ride 4 A Woman Guest House
This guest house is a convenient place to stay being located 17km from Kanungu town which is a walkable distance to the park entrance.
It is owned by the community helping support the progress of women and their families by providing jobs.
Facilities ; restaurant with well served food , well stocked bar with wine , beer and selection of spirits .

Best time to visit Buhoma
Gorilla trekking can be carried out all the year round , but the best time is during the dry season in months of June to September and December to February.
How to get to Buhoma
By road .
Buhoma can be accessed by road via Kampala – Masaka- Mbarara – Kabale and then Buhoma for about 8 to 9 hours.
You can as well access Buhoma from Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha sector and from Rwanda you fly to Kigali international air port and then connect to Buhoma via Cyanika which takes about 3 to 4 hours drive.
By Air
Buhoma can be accessed by air where visitors take a flight from Entebbe international airport to Kihihi air strip and then connect to Buhoma sector by road .
