Ruhija is located in the eastern part of Bwindi impenetrable National Park a home of the endangered mountain gorillas 459 individuals Of those remaining in the wild.
Among all gorilla sectors Ruhija is known to have the smallest number of these magnificent creatures about 30% of those in Bwindi.
Ruhija sector has got 3 well habituated gorilla families which are namely Bitukura gorilla , Oruzogo gorilla family and Kyaguriro gorilla family.
The first to be opened for trekking were Bitukura and Oruzogo gorilla families then Kyaguriro opened later.
The Kyaguriro gorilla family is majorly a research group thus to visit it tourists need formal permission from Uganda Wildlife Authority.

Ruhija can be accessed by road via Kampala – masaka – Mbarara to kabale then head to the park headquarters which takes about 8 to 9 hours
Ruhija can as well be accessed by Air transport where travellers travel from Entebbe air international air port or kajjansi air strip to kihihi air strip and then connect to the Park head quarters
