Detailed 5-Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Overnight in Kigali
Upon your arrival, our company representative will meet you at Kigali International Airport and transfer you to your accommodation, where you can settle in, have dinner, and rest overnight.
If your arrival time is early, we will conduct a Kigali city excursion for the day and drop you off at your accommodation afterward, giving you ample time to prepare for the next day’s gorilla trekking activity.
Day 2: Transfer to Musanze
On Day 2, after a mid-morning breakfast, we will visit the Kimironko Market (one of the largest local markets on the African continent) before heading to the historical Hotel des Mille Collines (where the movie “Hotel Rwanda” was filmed) for lunch.
After lunch, we will transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze, arriving in the evening.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking & Twin Lakes Visit
We will start Day 3 with a hearty breakfast and pack our lunch before heading to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a short briefing at 7:00 AM.
During the briefing, you will learn the rules and regulations of mountain gorilla tracking, precautions to take, and other important information.
This is also the perfect time to ask any questions you may have, so don’t hesitate to speak up.
After the meeting, we will be grouped and taken into the jungle to search for the mountain gorillas, which may take up to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ movements.
Once we encounter the gorillas, we will spend a full hour with them, maintaining a distance of at least 6 meters.
After this memorable experience, we will drive back to the lodge and later visit the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera for community activities and, if possible, canoeing.
Dinner and overnight will be at our lodge in Volcanoes National Park.
Day 4: Second Gorilla Trekking & Ibyi’wacu Cultural Visit
On Day 4, we will track a different gorilla family for our second gorilla trekking activity.
After breakfast, we will return to the same briefing point as the previous day for another short meeting on the dos and don’ts of gorilla tracking.
We will then head into the jungle in search of a new gorilla family. Once we find them, we will enjoy another full hour of close encounters, interaction, and photography.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Ibyi’wacu Cultural Center for a cultural trail before returning to our lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Kigali City Tour and Departure
After an early breakfast, we will embark on a Kigali city tour, visiting several places that highlight Rwanda’s tragic past.
Among these is the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Monument, a place where thousands of Rwandans’ remains lie in remembrance of the country’s dark genocide era, which saw many lives lost.
We will also visit cultural centers, local communities, charity homes, and other locations depending on how much time you have before your departure.
