Detailed 12-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Kampala City Tour

Your 12-day Uganda camping safari begins at the airport or your hotel/residence in Kampala/Entebbe.

Start with a tour of Kampala’s main attractions, including the Uganda Museum (with artifacts and antiques), Kabaka’s Palace (the royal residence), Ndere Center (a cultural hub), Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo, the Independence Monument, and Rubaga Cathedral.

Day 2: Transfer to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and Proceed to Murchison Falls National Park

After an early breakfast, depart Kampala and head northwest to Murchison Falls National Park.

Make a stop to purchase fresh fruits and refreshments, then continue to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, established to restore Uganda’s rhino population.

Trek with the rhinos for 1-2 hours, then proceed to Murchison Falls National Park.

Day 3: Full-Day Exploration in Murchison Falls National Park

Awake to the sounds of vibrant wildlife. After breakfast, set out for a morning game drive, including a stop at the hippo pool.

Continue to the Buligi game tracks on the northern bank, where you may spot elephants, buffalo, giraffes, duikers, warthogs, reedbucks, bushbucks, and occasionally lions and leopards.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, depart for Kibale Forest National Park. Stop for lunch in Hoima and continue to Kibale, checking in at your lodge upon arrival.

Visit a local community near the park, where you can join cultural tours, explore tea plantations, and see crater lakes.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before your chimpanzee trekking adventure.

With the help of a professional guide, observe chimpanzees as they go about their daily routines. After lunch, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park for your next adventure.

Day 6: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

After breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a morning game drive. Popular routes include the Channel Drive Circuit and Kasenyi Plains Drive.

Spot animals like lions, hyenas, Uganda kobs, elephants, and buffalo. After lunch, enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, where you’ll see hippos, Nile crocodiles, and various water birds.

Day 7: Day at Mweya Peninsula and Ishasha Sector

After breakfast, head to the Mweya Peninsula for a game drive, with views of wildlife and the Rwenzori Mountains.

Next, explore the Ishasha sector to see the tree-climbing lions and other wildlife like buffalo, antelope, and elephants.

Day 8: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Batwa Community Tour

After breakfast, journey further south to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Upon arrival, have lunch and then take a community tour to meet the Batwa pygmies, the forest’s original inhabitants, who once coexisted with gorillas and other wildlife.

Day 9: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Begin with breakfast, then report to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette.

Trek through the forest in search of mountain gorillas, where you’ll have an hour to observe these incredible primates. Return to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 10: Exploring Lake Bunyonyi

Depart Bwindi early and arrive at Lake Bunyonyi by midday. After lunch, take a boat cruise on Lake Bunyonyi, visiting some of the 29 islands, including Bwama and Njuyeera.

Spot over 200 bird species and explore culturally significant islands like Punishment Island.

Day 11: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park and Evening Game Drive

After breakfast, depart for Lake Mburo National Park. Upon arrival, set out on an evening game drive to see animals such as waterbucks, buffalo, hippos, impalas, hyenas, topis, zebras, and reedbucks.

The park is also home to over 350 bird species.

Day 12: Return to Kampala

On the final day of your safari, enjoy a morning game drive through Lake Mburo National Park.

Afterward, set off for Kampala, stopping at the Uganda Equator for photos and a fun experiment.

Continue to Entebbe Airport for your departure, marking the end of your Uganda safari.
