Kashasha River trail

Kashasha River trail is one of the hiking trails in Bwindi impenetrable National Park and leads tourists from Buhoma to Nkuringo sector .

Kashasha River trail is one of the most challenging to walk through because of the hilly terrain . The trail is about 17km and requires 6 to 7 hours of hiking.

While hiking tourists will have a chance to spot various mammal species such as chimpanzees, baboons , buffaloes , bush bucks , elephants, duikers, and mountain gorillas, bird species such as Ruwenzori turaco , black kite , hornbill among others

Tourists will be led by a well armed park ranger to protect them against dangerous wild animals.

 

 

About Bwindi impenetrable National Park

Bwindi impenetrable National park is located in southwestern Uganda in the districts of kabale , kisoro and kanungu .

The park is a home of the magnificent mountain gorillas about 459 individuals.

Bwindi was established as a National park in 1991 and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.

Bwindi is the major destination for gorilla trekking with over 20 gorilla families open for trekking such as Mubare , Nkuringo , Christmas, Habinyanja, Rushengura , katwe, Bushaho, Bikingi among others .

The park covers an area of about 331 sq km consisting of both montane and lowland forests.

The park is also a home to other wildlife species including primates like chimpanzees, blue monkeys , black and white colobus , over 350 bird species such as regal sun bird , Ruwenzori baths , grey crowned crane , woodpeckers , black billed turaco , black bee eater among others .

Other mammals are elephants , forest buffaloes and duikers.

Bwindi impenetrable National park experiences a tropical type of clarinet characterized by heavy rainfall ranging between 1500m to 1900m per annum and annual mean temperature ranges from minimum of 7 to 15 degrees celsius to maximum 20 to 27 degrees Celsius.

Heavy rainfall is usually received in the months of March to April and September to November whereas little rainfall in the months of June to August and December to February.

 

 

Best time for hiking

Tourists can hike any time of the year whether dry or rainy season. However the dry season is the best time to hike in the months of June to early September and December to February.

This is because there is little rainfall during these months and the trail is dry and easier to pass through
