How many tribes live in Bwindi
Bwindi is a home for the most endangered primates mountain gorillas and it habits about 459 individuals half of those remaining in the wild .
Bwindi is found in South Western Uganda lying on the border between Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo at the edge of the Albertine Rift .
It covers about 331 sq kilometres with both motane and low land Forests .
The Bwindi is governed by Uganda Wildlife Authority that has worked effortlessly with other national and international bodies to protect the endangered mou gorillas and other wildlife species .
The Park habits about 120 mammal species , 27 frog species , 310 butterfly species , 350 bird species , more than 1000 flowering plants and 104 species of ferns.
The park was established in 1991 to protect the mountain gorillas .
There are about 20 mountain gorilla groups in the park available for trekking and the very first group to be available for trekking was Mubare group in 1993.
How many tribes live in Bwindi
Majorly there are 2 tribes residing in Bwindi and they are Batwa people and the Bakiga.
Tourits can visit these tribes and reconnoiter more of their cultures after a gorilla trek.
1. Batwa
Batwa are recognized as the original occupants of Bwindi forest and are known as gatherers and hunters as a way of finding their food.
The Batwa are pygmies which means they are the shortest tribe in Uganda.
A man’s height in Batwa People is about 60inches and a woman ‘s height is about 57inches.
Batwa people act as the tour guides for tourists a role they got after some were employed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority due to their expert knowledge about the Park.
The Batwa highly depend on the forest for medicine and various herbs for healing purposes and more so call the forest home and love it like their own body.
The Batwa are highly welcoming people who express a warm welcome through smiles and singing folk songs and dances for the tourists .
When tourists visit Bwindi they can get an opportunity to adventure the culture of the Batwa and as well interact with them.
Other things tourists can learn is how to make fire using sticks , honey collection methods and how they hunted and gathered fruits.

2.Bakiga
The Bakiga are also another tribe found in Bwindi and these are known for growing coffee at the edges of the park.
They grow coffee such as Robusta and Arabica coffee.
When tourists visit Bwindi they get a chance to tour the coffee farm lands , and also learn about the Bakiga cultures.
Other Activities tourists can engage in is learning how to prepare local food and indeed its a great experience with these amazing people .
