Muyanga waterfall trail is located in Buhoma sector of Bwindi impenetrable National park . The trail is a popular destination for tourists who come for gorilla trekking in the park.

The Muyanga waterfall trail is about 4km long and takes about 3 to 4 hours to complete the hike

Tourists will have chance to spot the beautiful scenery of Bwindi forest , and encounter various wildlife species such as primates and birds and will also have amazing views of Muyanga waterfall.

Some of the primates encountered are LHoest’s monkey , black and white colobus and chimpanzees.

Other mammals are duikers , elephants, buffaloes, bush bucks etc

Bird species include ; Rwenzori turaco , regal sun bird , mountain masked apalis, crowned horn bill , great blue turaco , green bulbs etc .

The Muyanga water fall trail takes tourists from Buhoma along river Ivi- Nkuringo trail.

 

About Buhoma sector of Bwindi

Buhoma sector is found in the northern region of Bwindi . Buhoma was the first sector to be opened for gorilla trekking .

Currently Buhoma stands as the most visited sector of Bwindi consisting of the oldest gorilla family which Mubare and others are Habinyanja, Rushengura and katwe.

 

Tips for hiking Muyanga waterfall trail

Tourists are encouraged to wear hiking boots

Tourists are encouraged to keep hydrated throughout the hike

Wear insect repellent to keep from mosquitoes and other insects

Tourists must hire a local guide to lead them through the hike and also share necessary information about the forest.

 

How to Access the trail

by Road

Tourists will travel from Kampala or Entebbe by car and then head to Bwindi impenetrable national park in south western Uganda . The journey takes about 9 to 10 hours covering 540km.

 

By Air

Tourists will travel by plane from Entebbe International Airport or kajjansi air field to kisoro air strip and then then head to the Bwindi by road.
