Crime rate in Bwindi
Bwindi impenetrable national park is situated in south western Uganda and is a home to over 459 mountain gorillas almost half of the world’s population of these magnificent creatures.
The park is a UNESCO world heritage site and the most biologically heterogeneous places in the world.
The Bwindi is made up of steep hills and valleys and is located at an altitude of 1190m to 2607m above sea level.
The parks topography and climate have encouraged flora and fauna such as 120 mammal species , 350 bird species , 310 buttery species and 27 frog species and 200 tree species and 104 species of ferns that provide a habitat to the wild animals.
The main tourist attraction is the mountain gorillas whereas the park has other primates such as colobus monkey, chimpanzees and baboons.
The first gorilla family is Mubare gorilla family which was opened for trekking in 1991.
Other gorilla families include; Nshungi , Rushengura gorilla family, Nkuringo gorilla family, Habinyanja gorilla family , Oruzogo Gorilla family, Bitukura gorilla family , mishaya gorilla family among others.
The park has gone through several conservation efforts by Uganda wildlife Authority In partnership with international organisations that work tirelessly to protect the park’s biodiversity.
Many of the dangers to wildlife like poaching , diseases , habitat loss have been reduced in Bwindi.
Crime rate in Bwindi
Bwindi is one of the safest places to do gorilla trekking as the government of Uganda has increased security and resettled all the people from park premises.
This affirms that as tourists do their tourist activities they are highly safe in the park.
Many base their insecurities on the 1998 Bwindi massacre where the Rwandan Hutu rebels attacked Bwindi and killed over 8 tourists from America , The UK among others and also the killing of the dominant silverback Rafiki the leader of the Nkuringo gorilla family who was killed by poachers in the Park.
However , tourits ought to understand that government has highly invested in the park security , during gorilla trekking tourists are guarded by 2 well armed park rangers and tourist police to protect and defend them from outsiders and dangerous wild animals.
Safety precautions
Rules and regulations that govern the park Should be followed regularly to have a wonderful experience. Incase an area is out of bounds then tourists should highly desist themselves from approaching such areas.
Tourists should not go to the park with out any park rangers or tour guides.
Tourists shouldn’t get out of the car most especially during game drives in the wild unless instructed to do so.
Best time to Visit Bwindi
Bwindi is open for tourism all the time of the year but the best time is the dry season.
This is in the months of June to September and December to February because the trekking trails are easier to be passed through.
