The Habinyanja (Railegh) Trail

The Habinyanja trail is found in Buhoma sector of Bwindi impenetrable National park . The trail offers stunning views of the Bwindi forest and the wild animals in the park .

It takes about 4 to 6 hours to hike Habinyanja trail and tourists will encounter different physical features, animals and birds.

The animals include ; elephants , buffaloes, duikers , red tailed monkeys , blue monkeys , grey checked mangabeys , forest hogs , mountain gorillas , chimpanzees among others .

Bird species encountered are African fish eagle , Brian snake eagle , Ross turaco , cape robin chat , western nectar , olive thrush , Ruwenzori baits , black billed turaco , lesser honey guide , wood peckers , regal sun bird among others .

 

Some of the physical features encountered are ;

Habinyanja swamp

The is where we find the Habinyanja gorilla family . The family was named after this swamp . The swamp contributes greatly to the ecosystem as a habitat to wildlife species like the African black duck .

 

Muyanga River

Muyanga River is found in Buhoma sector of Bwindi . It is a major tributary of River Nile and tourists will spot this River and the various bird species it habits such as the African Black duck etc

 

Riyoyi ridge

Tourists will climb up this steep ridge and have rewarding Panaromic views of the surrounding areas.

 

Buhoma River

Buhoma River is also a major tributary of the Nile . Tourists will have chance to spot the river and various wild life species habited.

 

Best time to visit

The best time to visit is the dry season in the months of June to September and December to February. This is because the Habinyanja trail is not slippery snd tourists can easily hike it.

 

How to Access Habinyanja trail

Habinyanja trail is found in Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and can be accessed by either Road or Air .

By Road

Tourists will travel from Kampala or Entebbe and proceed to kabale where they branch to Bwindi. Tourists will after head to Buhoma sector where they have chance to hike Habinyanja trail .

The whole journey will take 9 to 10 hours .

 

By Air

Tourists will book a flight from Entebbe international airport or kajjansi air field and then fly to kisoro air strip or kihihi airstrip . Then tourists will use a car to caress Beindi impenetrable National park from either airstrips.
