Mubwindi Swamp trail
Mubwindi swamp trail is one of the best trails in Bwindi impenetrable National Park.
It takes 4 to 5 hours to hike through Mubwindi swamp trail taking you through the forest and the swamp offering exciting views of nature.
Tourists must be guided by a well armed park ranger who is familiar with the park.
Tourists will have chance to spot different birds in the wild because Mubwindi swamp trail is marked as a birders haven in Bwindi .
Bird species include ; hadaba ibis , sacred ibis, African jacana , specked pigeon , crowned hornbill, crake yellow bill , black billed turaco , giant kingfisher, Archers robin chat , yellow eyed black fly catcher , strange weaver , handsome spurrier , grey cheated babbler , yellow streaked green bul, Donerty’s and lagdens bush shrike , long tailed cuckoo.
Other wild animals will also be encountered in the jungle such as forest hogs , duikers , chimpanzees, elephants , mountain gorillas, buffaloes , bush bucks , bush pigs , among others .
How to get to Mubwindi swamp trail
Mubwindi swamp trail is located in Bwindi impenetrable National Park in south western Uganda and it can be accessed either by road or by air .
By Road
Tourists will have to use a car and access Rushura sector of Bwindi impenetrable National park in south western Uganda.
The journey takes about 8 to 10 hours by road via the Kampala to Masaka to Mabrara to kabale route .
From Kigali , Rwanda the journey takes 4 to 5 hours and tourists will via cyanika border .
By Air
Tourists will take a flight to kisoro Air strip from Entebbe international airport or kajjansi air field . The flight takes about 1 hour and half . Tourists will use domestic airlines like fly Uganda and Aero link Uganda.
Best time to Hike
Mubwindi swamp trail can be hiked in the dry season in the months of June to August and December to February because the trail is dry and easy to walk through it .
