The Mubwindi Swamp Trail is one of the best trails in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It takes 4 to 5 hours to hike through the Mubwindi Swamp Trail. The trail takes you through the forest and the swamp, offering exciting views of nature.
Tourists must be guided by a well-armed park ranger who is familiar with the park.
Tourists will have the chance to spot different birds in the wild because the Mubwindi Swamp Trail is known as a birders’ haven in Bwindi.
Bird species include the hadada ibis, sacred ibis, African jacana, speckled pigeon, crowned hornbill, crake yellowbill, black-billed turaco, giant kingfisher, Archer’s robin-chat, yellow-eyed black flycatcher, strange weaver, handsome spurfowl, grey-chested babbler, yellow-streaked greenbul, Doherty’s and Lagden’s bushshrike, and long-tailed cuckoo.
Other wild animals can also be seen in the jungle, such as forest hogs, duikers, chimpanzees, elephants, mountain gorillas, buffaloes, bushbucks, bush pigs, and others.
How to Get to Mubwindi Swamp Trail
The Mubwindi Swamp Trail is located in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. It can be accessed either by road or by air.
By Road: Tourists will need to use a car to reach the Rushura sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. The journey takes about 8 to 10 hours by road via the Kampala to Masaka to Mbarara to Kabale route. From Kigali, Rwanda, the journey takes 4 to 5 hours, and tourists will travel via the Cyanika border.
By Air: Tourists can take a flight to Kisoro Airstrip from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield. The flight takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Tourists can use domestic airlines like Fly Uganda and Aero Link Uganda.
Best Time to Hike
The Mubwindi Swamp Trail is best hiked during the dry season, from June to August and December to February. During this time, the trail is dry and easier to walk through.
