Meet the Bweza Gorilla Group – Bwindi’s Rushaga Sector Highlight

The Bweza Gorilla Group originates from the Nshongi Gorilla Family, which was the largest gorilla family to be habituated.

It was formed due to misunderstandings in the mother group, Nshongi, which led the dominant silverback Bweza to secede and create the Bweza Gorilla Group in 2013.

The group is found in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, specifically in the Rushaga Sector, and consists of about 7 members, including one silverback and 2 infants.

Over the years, it was speculated that the Bweza Gorilla Group might reunite with its mother group, but this did not happen, and the Bweza group became open for tourism.

Bweza Gorilla Group is one of the most interesting groups to trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

They are known for being very friendly, and tourists can freely watch them engage in their day-to-day activities like feeding, playing, and grooming each other.

The Bweza Gorilla family also provides tourists with an opportunity to view the beautiful hills of Kigezi town and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Virunga Mountains and Lake Bunyonyi.
