Detailed 4-Day Congo Gorillas & Nyiragongo Hiking Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Goma
Upon arrival at Kigali Airport, you will be met and driven to the Rwanda/Congo (DRC) border – Grande Barrière (La Corniche).
You will be assisted with clearing customs before crossing the border into the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Continue on to Goma or Virunga National Park for an overnight stay at your hotel/lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking in Virunga National Park
After an early breakfast, depart for Parc National des Virunga and proceed to the starting point of your gorilla tracking experience.
After completing the park formalities, embark on a once-in-a-lifetime experience of tracking mountain gorillas.
These massive primates are extremely rare, with fewer than 700 remaining in the wild today.
You will get within meters of the gorilla family and be privileged to spend an hour among them.
Return to your hotel/lodge for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Mount Nyiragongo Hike
After an early breakfast, prepare for a real adventure as you spend the day hiking the active Nyiragongo volcano.
The trek includes a walk through lush forest and lava fields, with a steep incline near the summit.
You will stay overnight in the Nyiragongo Crater Cabanas on the volcano rim.
The stunning views, both day and night, make this an unforgettable experience.
You will spend the night in tents at the rim of the giant crater, high above the active lava lake.

Things to bring for the Nyiragongo Hike: Sleeping bag, change of dry clothes, rain gear, good walking shoes, warm clothes (sweater, jacket), as it is cold at the rim. Sun cream, a warm hat, torch, camera, and any other personal toiletries.
Day 4: Mount Nyiragongo Descent + Departure
After breakfast, begin the descent at 07:00, arriving at the trailhead before lunch. Continue back to Goma City for lunch.
Afterward, you will be transferred back to Rwanda, arriving at Kigali Airport for departure.
