Nkuringo Community Conservation and Development Foundation NCCDF

 

Nkuringo is found in Bwindi National Park on a hillside bordering Bwindi forest and an extended view of Congo .

 

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is found in South Western Uganda and is home to half the world’s mountain Gorilla population making it a very exciting tourist destination.

 

Different income generating activities are carried out in Bwindi Impenetrable therefore there is need to elevate the standards of living of the people .

 

Several  community based organizations have come up to improve the quality of life little wonder the NCCDF is among

 

Nkuringo Community Conservation and Development Foundation is a community based project aimed at supporting women through head craft shops made by locals sold to tourists.

 

It also trains orphans how to be creative including how to sing and dance during visitor entertainment programs in visiting accommodations for a living .

 

Several activities are organized by the Nkuringo Community Conservation and Development Foundation including a planned community walk which gives tourists a chance to encounter with the local people and experience their unique African culture .

 

It also gives chance to tourists to have a glimpse into the day today life of the local people as they are able to see their daily domestic activities such as the way they wash using hands in the traditional manners , how to grind and cook their traditional meals spicing up the whole experience

 

Tourists are also able to see a series of traditional huts, grinding stones , apparatus for distilling waragi cooking pots all at Sessile’s home during a planned community walks organized by the NCCDF.

 

Interested tourists can also have a visit to the local traditional healer who simply has great knowledge of local herbs and treats his people with the gift of strictly nature and share with him his knowledge on how to naturally use herbs to get healed from some diseases.

 

The NCCDF also gives chance to tourists to branch over to Nicholas , the blacksmith that dates back to the stone age from which workaholic Nicholas Hammers turned metals into utensils , hoes, arrows and pangas .  From there , they can proceed to schools within The community and have an engagement with highly spirited children who go to school In very tough conditions but are willing and able to learn for a brighter future .

 

It is worth noting that Nkuringo Community Conservation and Development Foundation also owns clouds mountain Gorilla lodge outside Bwindi forest and shares profits with the community creating benefits like health clinics , and gives chance to benefit directly from gorilla tourism through employing the local people to participate in activities such as guided walking tours providing an inside look at village life .

 

They also fund projects within the community including profitable vegetable and livestock farms .

 

In a nutshell, the NCCDF efforts towards community development has greatly improved the quality of life within Bwindi
