Kabale town
Kabale town is located in south western region of Uganda and this town is the Chief town of kabale district .
Kabale town is also nicknamed ” ka stone” a local word in Rukiga language a kabale is a small stone .
Kabale town is located 142km from Mbarara the largest city in western Uganda and about 410km from Kampala city by toad.
The town is near katuna border and neighbouring with districts of Ntugamo , kisoro and Rukungiri . The town is highly known because of the beautiful scenery comprising of hills , lakes , forests among others .
Kabale district in 1980 was given a new name from Kigezi district

Lake Bunyonyi
The name Bunyonyi means an area with little bird species because of the various bird species around the lake .
Lake Bunyonyi has 29 islands which include Bushara , Njuyeera , Bwama among others . Major economic activities around the lake are fishing and farming .
Kissizi waterfalls
Kisiizi waterfalls is found at kyabamba river in kisiizi village . This place offers a stunning scenery and good for relaxation.
Mountain gorillas
Mountain gorillas are found in Bwindi Impenetrable National park and Mgahinga National park . The two National parks can be visited through out the year however the best time is in the dry season in the month of June to September and December to February .
Bwindi has over 21 gorilla families open for gorilla trekking and Mgahinga National park has 1 gorilla family
A gorilla permit costs about USD 800 in Uganda.
How to Access kabale town
By Road
Travellers coming from Kampala will travel via Kampala – madaka – Mbarara – kabale route and the distance is about 410km and the journey covers 8 to 10 hours.
By air
Travellers will travel from Entebbe international air port or kajjansi air filed and head to kisoro air strip and then use a car to kabale town .
