Albertine Gorilla Campsite is a budget lodge located in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas.
The campsite is situated just 10 meters from the Uganda Wildlife Authority office, providing an ideal starting point for gorilla trekking on the Nkuringo trail.

How to Reach the Lodge
By Road: Tourists can travel by car from Entebbe or Kampala to Kisoro, then proceed to the Nkuringo sector, a journey that takes about 8 to 10 hours. Although long, the drive is an opportunity to explore more of Uganda’s countryside. Travelers from Rwanda can cross via the Cyanika border, connect to Kisoro, then proceed to Nkuringo and reach the lodge.
By Air: Tourists can book a domestic flight from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield to Kisoro Airstrip, followed by a short transfer to the campsite.
Activities to Engage In
- Visit to the Batwa Community: The Batwa are the original inhabitants of the forest, who once lived alongside the mountain gorillas. After a gorilla trekking experience, tourists can visit the Batwa community to interact with them, enjoy traditional entertainment, and learn about their way of life.
- Nature Walks: Nature walks take visitors along various trails where they encounter different wildlife species, such as birds and other primates. These walks generally last 2 to 4 hours.
- Bird Watching: Bwindi is home to over 348 bird species. After gorilla trekking, tourists can enjoy birdwatching along the trails, spotting species such as the Black Bee-Eater, Black-Billed Turaco, Dusky Twinspot, and Shelley’s Crimsonwing.
- Gorilla Trekking: Gorilla trekking is the primary activity in Bwindi. The trek starts in the morning with a briefing that covers rules and regulations. Guided by a park ranger, tourists hike through forest trails to locate a gorilla family. Visitors are allowed to spend 1 hour observing a specific gorilla family, watching them play, feed, and interact.
