Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Upon your arrival, our company representative will be already waiting for you at the airport. You will be picked, briefed about this 7 days Rwanda primates safari and transferred direct to Nyungwe Forest National Park, about 6 hours away by road where we should reach in the late afternoon or evening depending on your time of arrival. An early arrival means slight stop overs at Butare Museum and Nyanza palace for our first touch of Rwanda’s history hence, we recommend you set foot on Kigali International Airport not later than 9:30am (EAT) if we are to have enough time at these sites.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
This second day of your 7 days Rwanda primates safari is the day you get a sight of Rwanda’s Chimpanzees in the forests of Nyungwe. We shall rise to an early morning breakfast and immediately proceed to Nyungwe forest headquarters for briefing about Chimpanzee Tracking before making our final strides into the forests of Nyungwe for the actual activity. We shall also expect sights of more primates such as monkeys as we get closer to the chimpanzees. For bird watchers, Nyungwe is goldmine for you! Various species of birds will be flying above you and you continue with your quest for Chimps hence, the best opportunity to have sights of these beautiful birds. After an awesome moment with the chimps, you shall return to your place of stay for a lunch meal then proceed for a canopy walk experience in the same forest. The canopy walk will put us top of Nyungwe Forest, giving us the best opportunity for an aerial view of the forest along with various species of birds.
Day 3: Transfer to Ruhengeri
After breakfast on this third day of your 7 days Rwanda primates safari, we shall get on our journey to Volcanoes National Park, Ruhengeri where we shall arrive in the evening or late afternoon. If by chance we arrive in the late afternoon, we shall have a brief community tour and then head to our place of stay for dinner and an overnight as we prepare for a gorilla trekking experience the following day.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking & Tour Twin Lakes
After an early morning breakfast on this 4th day of your 7 days Rwanda primates safari, you will head to Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for a short briefing which commences at 7:30am and lasts for about an hour before making your final strides to the misty jungle of Volcanoes National Park to visit Rwanda gorillas. Gorilla tracking can last from 1 to 6 hours depending on the movement of these gentle primates hence, you ought to carry packed lunch and refreshments because there are no shops along the paths. We shall have a full hour of a close encounter with these gorillas where you get the chance to take photos, bond with them and play with them as well. From here we shall return to our lodge for lunch and relaxation before going for an afternoon visit to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo accompanied with a lot other community activities. After this activity, we shall head back to our lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Kigali
After breakfast on this fifth day of your 7 days Rwanda primates safari, we shall head back into the jungles of Volcanoes National park for Golden Monkey Tracking that should cover majority of our morning. We shall then return to your lodge for a lunch break then after drive off to Kigali and transfer to Akagera National Park right away where we should reach late in the evening for dinner and overnight as we prepare for a wildlife viewing activity the following day.
Day 6: Transfer to Akagera National Park
After a heavy breakfast meal, we shall set off for our last destination – Akagera National Park, located east of Rwanda across Kigali City. This is the final destination you will visit on this 7 days Rwanda primates safari. Set off should be as early as 7:00am if we are to have enough time to relax and prepare for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema hence, you are called to wake us extremely early on this day. We shall reach at noon for lunch and later on head for an afternoon boat ride where we shall see variety of aquatic water animals like Hippopotamuses, crocodiles and water birds like the papyrus Gonolek, African fish eagle and the Shoebill stork. Day 7: Game Drives And Later Return to Kigali
This is the last day of this 7 days Rwanda primates safari. After having your breakfast meal, you will embark on an early morning game drive which should offer you magnificent views of Rwanda’s wildlife such as the big five game animals (elephants, lions, rhinos, leopards and buffaloes) along with other wildlife like the impala, hippopotamuses, oribi, black-tailed mongoose, zebras, cape elands, antelopes, giraffes, buffalo, and also primates like the olive baboons and vervet monkeys. After this game drive, we shall return to our lodge for lunch as we set off for our journey back to Kigali in the late afternoon where you will be dropped at your preferred place or transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
