Mount Muhabura, also known as Mount Muhabura, is located on the border of Rwanda and Uganda.

The mountain is a stratovolcano, which means it is inactive, and it is part of the Virunga Mountains. Mount Muhabura is the third-highest of the eight Virunga Mountains, stretching up to 4,127 meters (13,540 feet) above sea level.

Muhabura is a Kinyarwanda name meaning “The Guide.” The mountain can be seen from both Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Mgahinga National Park in Uganda, as it is shared by both countries.

Hiking: Hiking Mount Muhabura is the main activity done in this area, and it can be done from either Rwanda or Uganda. In Uganda, it is hiked from Mgahinga National Park, and in Rwanda, it is hiked from Volcanoes National Park. Hiking starts very early in the morning at 7 a.m., with a briefing for tourists who are then grouped into small teams and led by park rangers to hike the mountain.

Best Time to Visit Mount Muhabura

The best time to visit Mount Muhabura is during the dry season when the slopes are not muddy or slippery, making hiking easier. The dry months are from June to August and December to February.
