Detailed 8-Day Congo Rwanda Gorilla Tour Itinerary

8-Day Lowland and Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Congo and Rwanda

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali Airport

Our tour representative will be holding a placard with your name, happily waiting to receive you at Kigali Airport.

You will be immediately transferred to a hotel in Kigali for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest, Southern Rwanda

After breakfast, our tour guide will pick you up from the hotel and drive southwards, with a visit to the Murambi Genocide Memorial Site and the King’s Palace en route.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest

Early in the morning, gather at Gisakura Park headquarters for a briefing by the senior park ranger before embarking on a forest walk in search of man’s closest relative – the chimpanzees.

Day 4: Cross Over to Bukavu in Congo

On this day, you will cross over to DR Congo in preparation for the next day’s lowland gorilla trekking. It takes less than two hours to reach Bukavu town.

You may visit the museum in Bukavu and explore other interesting places around Lake Kivu, including a boat cruise to Idjwi Island.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking

Begin your day at the Tshivanga Visitor Centre for a briefing on the trek. Then, proceed with armed game rangers following the well-maintained trails.

In the forest, you will spend at least an hour in the presence of the lowland gorillas.

Afterward, return to the lodge for relaxation and later head back to Rwanda’s Lake Kivu shore for an overnight stay.

Day 6: Boat Cruise on Lake Kivu

Enjoy a boat cruise to Coffee Island, where you can witness the local brewing of banana beer and explore the banana gardens.

Return to the shores for lunch, and in the afternoon, drive to Ruhengeri – Kinigi.

Day 7: Mountain Gorilla Trekking

This day is reserved for tracking mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park.

Day 8: Kigali City Tour and Departure

On this day, enjoy a Kigali city tour, including a visit to the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site and local handicraft shops.

In the evening, we will drop you off at the airport for your return flight.
