The Bamboo Trail is located in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the Ruhija sector. The trail is about 2607 meters long, and it takes 7 hours to complete hiking through the trail.
Tourists will encounter various types of vegetation, mainly bamboo vegetation, montane vegetation, and tropical vegetation.
As tourists hike using the Bamboo Trail, they will have amazing views of different animal species, such as mammals like elephants, duikers, olive baboons, bushbucks, chimpanzees, giant forest hogs, red-tailed monkeys, and blue monkeys. They will also see bird species such as the African harrier hawk, brown snake eagle, marabou stork, woolly-necked stork, olive pigeon, regal sunbird, great blue turaco, and augur buzzard.
Hiking through the Bamboo Trail requires the guidance of a well-armed park ranger with knowledge about the park. It also requires maximum physical fitness to have a great experience.
About Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to the endangered mountain gorillas. It is located in southwestern Uganda in the districts of Kabale, Kisoro, and Kanungu.
The park is well known for its biodiversity, including various wildlife species such as mammals like chimpanzees, black-and-white colobus monkeys, duikers, and bird species such as the Ruwenzori batis, brown snake eagle, olive pigeon, great blue turaco, Ruwenzori turaco, black-billed turaco, black bee-eater, Cassin’s hawk, and others.
The park was originally home to the Batwa people, but they were displaced after the forest was established as a national park.
The forest was declared a national park in 1991 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
Bwindi experiences a tropical climate characterized by heavy rainfall and hot temperatures.
Rainfall ranges from 1400 mm to 1900 mm, and temperatures range from 7 to 15 degrees Celsius and 20 to 27 degrees Celsius.
The name “Bwindi” comes from a local word, “Mubwindi,” which means a place full of darkness.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority is the body in charge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
