Have a short encounter with Rwanda’s mountain gorillas with this 2-day Rwanda Gorilla Tour.
This 2-Day Rwanda Gorilla Safari starts and ends in Kigali, Rwanda, and includes one gorilla trekking permit for Volcanoes National Park ($1,500), which is included in the final cost.
Having the opportunity to spot some of the last remaining 720+ endangered mountain gorillas in the world is nothing short of an incredible experience and well worth the cost.
If you are looking for the shortest trek that includes your arrival, then this 2-Day Rwanda Gorilla Safari is the perfect package for you.

Detailed 2-Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park, Musanze
Upon your arrival, you will be met by our company representative and offered a free airport transfer in a private safari vehicle with a guide.
Your safari guide will drive you around Kigali City, taking you to various points of interest such as cultural markets, the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Monument, and other fascinating places, giving you a clear picture of Rwanda’s past and present as you begin your tour.
We will have lunch at Hotel Mille Collines, the hotel featured in the Hollywood blockbuster Hotel Rwanda, and tour its surroundings before heading to Volcanoes National Park.
The journey takes you through the stunning “land of a thousand hills” that Sir Winston Churchill famously described.
We will arrive at Volcanoes National Park in the evening.
As you are set for a physically challenging activity the following day, it’s essential to have a hearty dinner and plenty of rest.
We recommend staying hydrated, eating lots of fruits, and getting a good night’s sleep to shake off any travel fatigue, making the next day’s trek less demanding. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking, Transfer to Kigali & End of Trip
We will start the day with breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a short briefing session, after which we will set off for gorilla trekking in the misty jungles of Volcanoes National Park.
Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is typically shorter compared to the Uganda gorilla trekking experience and can last up to 6 hours or be as short as 2 hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements.
While locating these primates can be challenging, on lucky days you may encounter them after only a few strides.
Once we locate the mountain gorillas, we will spend up to an hour in their presence, maintaining a 7-meter distance to prevent the transmission of illnesses like influenza, which could endanger the gorillas’ health.
You are welcome to take unlimited photos (with your flash off), wave at the gorillas, watch them interact, and enjoy these precious moments before returning to the park headquarters, where you will receive your gorilla trekking certificates.
Afterward, we will have lunch at our accommodation before embarking on the return journey to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
